About Me

If you're reading this, you're probably curious about me, so I suppose I can indulge you -- at least to some extent. My name is MacKenzie Skylar Aries and I'm an artist who's been creating long before I understood what creating even meant. As a young child, I was often mixing paint colors (and making a mess), or sculpting something weird out of Play Doh, clay, mud, sand, rocks, or leaves.

My art is like my personal universe: shaped by nature, filtered through experiences, and colored in ways that apparently make art professors do a double-take. More than one educator has told me I must see color differently -- which I'm choosing to interpret as "uniquely magical" rather than "possibly needing an eye exam," although I probably need one of those as well.

My Creative Journey

Self-taught and wildly passionate, I've spent years developing my craft without the conventional roadmap or much formal training. My studio (read: desk) is part workshop, part chaos: sculptures emerge, paintings breathe, and creativity runs wild. Nature is my primary muse, offering inspiration through landscapes, ocean waves, and the small, intricate details that so many people seem to overlook.

While my ultimate dream is to sustain myself entirely through selling my art (because who doesn't want to turn their passion into a paycheck?), I'm realistic enough to know that's about as easy as teaching a cat to do taxes. But hey, impossible challenges are my favorite kind of challenge :).

Beyond the Canvas

When I'm not creating art, you'll find me:

  • Watching educational documentaries on all sorts of topics, from the deep sea to the Roman Empire to plate tectonics. I love learning about new things!
  • Writing stories that may (or may not) make sense. If you're interested in true crime, check out my website Cold Case Explorations where I dive deep into unsolved cases and mysteries!
  • Hanging out with animals who are infinitely kinder than most humans.
  • Helping people, because apparently I'm a softie beneath my snarky exterior.

My art isn't just about what you see; it's about what you feel. Each piece is a fragment of my perspective, a splash of color, and a dash of the world through my eyes that might help you see things just a little differently.

Just a Lil' Bit Different

In 2024, I was diagnosed with both Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Having both is sometimes referred to as being AuDHD. If you're curious autism, ADHD, or neurodivergency in general, check out my website New Autistic. I think having these disorders has probably contributed in great detail to my art style.
